Milani Illuminating Face Powder :: 01 Amber Nectar, 02 Hermosa Rose & 03 Beauty's Touch

Warning:  this will be a very picture heavy post.

Please note all of the images were taken late in the afternoon with the sun starting to set.  I've tried to correct the tone to closely reflect the true coloring of these powders.

Notice the pretty raised embossment of the rosettes.

I've always been a sucker for pretty packaging and novel presentation of beauty products.  Usually, high end brands like Chanel and Dior are genius at not only producing amazing quality products but they devote a lot of time to how the products look.

You can see my review of the Les Tissages de Chanel Tweed Blush in Brun Rose here  which showcases the intricate embossing of the powder.   Because these prestigious brands command a hefty price tag, it is expected that they also look very unique and very expensive.

It is rather rare that a drugstore brand will offer up a very intricately embossed face powder comprising of very pretty rosettes.  Granted the Milani Illuminating Face Powder ($10) is still far from the same quality in presentation as their more expensive counterparts, it is still rather nice that they are making an effort to make their products appear more upscale than they really are.

A mixture of beige, cream and peachy, pink shades.

A mixture of beige, tan with a hint of rose.

A mixture of cream, peach, cool pink and coral shades.

You may wonder how to use these powders.  I gently swirl all of the colors together with my brush before applying it to my face.

01 Amber Nectar - could be used as a very light warm golden, peachy, pink blush or as a cheek highligher

02 Hermosa Rose - I've used this as an all over finishing powder.  If you are pale enough, it could be used as a bronzer or cheek contour.

03 Beauty's Touch - a pretty, pale neutral pink blush.

The biggest thing to realize about these powders is that they are not overly pigmented.  They are in no way the same as the Milani Baked Blushes, reviewed here .   They provide a light wash of color with a gentle kiss of very fine shimmers that gives the skin a soft glow.

Do I think this trio of illuminating face powders are a worthy purchase?  At $10 each, there more pigmented face powders and blushes out there but for the novelty, I think they are nice to have.  By all means, pass on these if you already have the Milani Baked Blushes which are less expensive and far superior in pigmentation.

Overall Grade:   B+ (mostly for the roses)
