One of my biggest beauty pet peeves are dry, peeling lips. I am always on the lookout for something to hydrate and soften them. Currently I am using the Jurlique Love Balm in Rose ($6.50) that I purchased from Birchbox (I had a $10 credit from them when the Tarte Lip Surgence lipstick came broken in my March Birchbox). You can read about that unfortunate event here.
I love wearing lip balm but sometimes I want to wear either a lipstick or a lipgloss instead. But most of the time lipsticks and glosses end up making my lips more chapped. The Maracuja Divine Shine Lip Gloss in Peaceful ($21) upon first impression seems like any other typical lip gloss. It comes with a brush tip applicator and a click pen mechanism to advance the formula up from the barrel of the pen. I prefer the click mechanism versus the twist mechanism of my Stila Lip Glazes. The outside packaging is super cute with a vintage floral pattern.
In the pen, the gloss looks like a beautiful peachy color with very fine gold shimmers. But on my lips the color is essentially clear. There is really no color. If I had one complaint it would be that it is not pigmented enough. This came in the Tarte The Miracle of Maracuja Kit that I purchased as a Today's Special Value from QVC. You can read about the rest of the kit here.
What I will say though is that this is one of the most comfortable lip glosses my lips have come in contact with. Initially there is a light minty scent reminiscent of Starlight Mints (you know those little, round white and red striped candies). The scent is not overwhelming in the least and there is no obnoxious minty sensation.
The gloss texture is light and ever so slightly sticky (for staying power I presume). Definitely not as sticky as the Stila Lip Glazes or even my Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Glosses which you can read about here.
My lips feel moisturized and stay so for about 3-4 hours and when the gloss does wear off it doesn't leave my lips chapped. I am not sure if this is due to the Maracuja oil that is in this product. I am actually looking forward to trying other colors in this line (the more pigmented ones of course).
Overall Grade: B+
